Draw the liner along your upper lash line, from the inner curve of your iris outward. Smooth base shadow all over your lid with a brush. Then dust the crease of your lid with the darker shadow and blend with a clean brush. “Err on the subtle side.” If you prefer neutral shades, black liner and bone shadow work well on everyone.
